About 2 years ago I was on the hunt for Vintage Coach. I was such a huge fan of coach I wanted to collect all the purses I couldn’t afford to buy in my youth; then I was introduced to the world of Poshmark.
I set out; and succeeded, to get every coach I ever wanted from back in the day. After the hunt, the negotiation, the restoration, I asked myself “Why do I want the vintage when the new look is so much in style?” Well, for me it was all about the leather, the look, the feel, the smell.
During my hunt and capture for those vintage purses, it was like hitting the lottery; I was on top of the world. When I look back, I think having those vintage pieces was like capturing a moment back in time. The look was simple but classic, the weight felt like you could use some of them as num-chuks; not so much with today’s styles. And the smell…if you know leather than you know.
One day while doing a vintage restore, the tote was damaged more than the seller let on, and I had to decide…toss it or use the leather that was still good and make something new. Having no clue where to start, I spent the next year learning all I could about the wonderful world of leather. Learning about animal hides, leather dying processes (chrome vs. veg tan), the feel, the smell, tanneries, on and on. I took what I leaned and transformed that vintage purse into a beautiful clutch and wallet. And from that experience lead me into the beautiful collection of totes and pouches I offer today.
